Hi, Christina,

My name is Sarah, and while I don’t deal with APA specifically, I do a great deal of editing for my work and need to work in the sort of fine detail you’re wanting. I’ll be honest that I’m not one hundred percent sure about the answer to your question, but I’m pretty sure the answer is that you’re only going to be able to do this if you’re using a Braille display, which will have symbols to indicate the font style, bold, italics, ETC. I do agree with Jeniffer though that Nancy would be a great resource for you. I think she’s had to deal with this sort of formatting recently and would be able to tell you exactly what she’s done. I hope this is helpful, and please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help you.

Best,
Sarah

I don't know if she is on this list, so if you do not get your answer, please email me if you want me to connect you to Nancy. Additionally there is National Association of Blind Students (NABS) and South Carolina Association of Blind Students (SCABS). You can find both on FB and elsewhere. My son is Matthew Duffell-Hoffman, but I doubt he knows the answer to your question. Jennifer

Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can have the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.

Is there a way to independently identify italics and other formatting without needing to get sighted assistance? I had someone help me narrow down my options by telling them what I was looking for but I want to be able to figure this out on my own for future reference.

I know text analyzer only functions in edit fields, from what I've read and trying to use it myself on web-pages. I tried to use Skim Reading but I'm not sure I set up the rules I wanted correctly because it did not find what I was looking for. Well, it did, but not narrowed down to the solitary choice I was trying to select.
