Hello Federation Family,

As co-chair of the Legislative & Advocacy Committee for the SC Affiliate of the NFB. I have a perfect opportunity for our SC Affiliate members to get their voices heard and make an impact on a national level.

What is the issue?
The Transformation to Competitive Integrated Employment Act, S.533/H.R.1263 is currently pending in congress. We have heard there is a strong possibility of including the legislation in a larger workforce package being considered by Congress, which highly increases the chance of this legislation passing and becoming the law of the land.

Why is SC needed?
We would like help with encouraging Senator Lindsey Graham and US House Representative Joe Wilson (SC District 2) to support the legislation and consider becoming co-sponsors of the bill. We really want to lean on Senator Graham because he might be supportive of the idea since South Carolina has already passed and fully implementing the state law on ending subminimum wages. We hope that South Carolina’s congressional leadership wants to underscore the importance of displaying the commitment South Carolina has to correcting this issue on a national stage.

What do you do?
It’s super easy to take action and become an advocate. All you have to do is:
1). Locate the 2 attached letters that you can use as your email templates
2). Personalize the template with your own information.
3). Email the finished letters to the congressional correct staff member
(The letter labeled Senate should be emailed to Walker Truluck at walker_truluck at lgraham.senate.gov and the letter template labeled House of Representative should be emailed to Leah Grace Blackwell at leahgrace.blackwell at mail.house.gov)
4). Remember to CC Justin Young, Ed. D at jyoung at nfb.org - Justin is the Government Affairs Specialist working to push this piece of legislation at our NFB headquarters in Baltimore, MD
5). Sit back and be proud of your advocacy!

Letter prep tips
One note that I need to add to help you out is to let you know that the attached letters are templates only. You can make the needed adjustments and just hit send. However, we encourage you to personalize your letter in two ways:
🔹wherever you find brackets please delete the brackets + the instructional phrase within the brackets and replace with your personal information described by the instructional phrase within the brackets
🔹if compelled please add your experiences, which can be impactful in demonstrating the broad and personal need for S533/H.R. 1263 bills.

And only SC Affiliate members who live in district 2 need to send a letter to congressman Joe Wilson. The Second Congressional District currently includes all of Lexington, Aiken and Barnwell counties, with parts of Richland and Orangeburg counties.

Questions?
As easy as this process is I know that sometimes we still have questions or may prefer a hand in getting this done. With that said, if you need help in any way please reach out to me at (803)216-1667 or my email ms.jlbright at gmail.com. Additionally, you can reach out to our committee co-chair David Houck at (803) 254-3777or via email at nfbsc at sc.rr.com.

Best wishes,
