Dear Federation Family,

 

Welcome to the unofficial start of fall! Summer is a beehive of activity in
the National Federation of the Blind as we attended and participated in the
national convention.  This was closely followed by the NFB of SC state
convention, one of the first of the convention season. It made for a very
busy time for Federationists in South Carolina. We generally slow down just
a bit after state convention and then things pick back up with Blind
Equality Achievement Month in October.

 

I draw your attention to The Braille Monitor for September, 2025. For those
who were not able to attend the National Convention, Braille Monitor Editor
Chris Danielsen did an outstanding job of providing information regarding
convention happenings. While it was not possible to capture all in the first
Braille Monitor after convention, additional articles will come forth in
future editions. Please make sure to read or access the audio for President
Riccobono's Presidential Report and banquet speech. Both are outstanding!

 

Blind Equality Achievement Month

October is recognized as Blind Equality Achievement Month, a time to remind
others that blind people can live the lives we want.  Is your chapter or
division planning activities? Please share your events with me so that I can
aggregate this information for our affiliate and the national office

 

Secure Continued Access to the National Library Service for the Blind and
Print Disabled for Blind Children: 

According to NLS Operations Alert No. 25-73, effective December 31, 2025,
accounts for patrons under the age of eighteen without a completed parental
acknowledgment will be suspended. To ensure uninterrupted access to library
resources, parents are encouraged to contact their local Talking Book
Library as soon as possible to complete the acknowledgment process.

The Clarendon Chapter of the NFB of SC is selling tickets on a beautiful
braille afghan made and donated by Glenda Culick. It will cover a queen
sized bed and is done in hunter green and white. Tickets are $5 each or
three for $10. Contact Marty McKenzie or any member of the Clarendon
Chapter. The drawing will take place at the Annual Board Retreat on
Saturday, November 22, 2025.

The Rock Hill Chapter is selling tickets on a beautiful hand-made quilt
quilted by Ms. Pearline Barber. Tickets are one for $5 or three for $10.

Rock Hill Chapter members to get your tickets. The drawing will take place
on Monday, October 27, 2025 at the chapter meeting.

 

The next Palmetto Connects is scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 8:00
p.m. on the NFB of SC Zoom platform. Your host for this event is a surprise!

participate in this monthly meeting so that we can improve our attendance.
