The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) invites you to a 90-minute
listening session to share examples of fraud, scams, and unfair banking
practices that Older Americans and people with disabilities face as they
manage their finances and navigate financial systems.
The session will focus on understanding more about the frauds, scams and
exploitation that target Older Americans and people with disabilities,
including financial abuse from caregivers and family members. The session
will also cover consumer experiences regarding pain points, challenges with
accessibility and challenges accessing financial products and services
offered by banks and credit unions.
Your feedback and input on these consumer challenges is crucial as this
information can help the CFPB and National Disability Institute to identify
strategies for protecting consumers in the financial marketplace.
The information you share during this session will be kept strictly
confidential. Comments and examples shared will be integrated into a report
that will not include the names of the individuals or organizations that
shared this content. We invite participants of the listening session to
share real instances of consumer harm. The concrete examples can help the
CFPB to mobilize around those issues.
Please join us on November 9th , from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Eastern for an
invitation-only discussion with a diverse group of professionals including
service providers, advocates and policy advisors from across the country.
The focus of this facilitated discussion will be hearing from you and others
on the following:
* Fraud and scams that specifically target Older Americans and people
with disabilities, including financial abuse from caregivers and family
members.
* Pain points, challenges with accessibility and challenges accessing
and using banks, credit unions, and their financial products and services.
* What are the most acute consumer issues?
* What resources, programs, and policies can protect people from
those consumer issues?
Closed captioning and ASL interpreters will be provided.
Please RSVP by October 28th by replying to this email. We will follow-up
with a calendar invitation that includes Zoom log-in information.
Let me know if you have questions about the event. We're looking forward to
the discussion.
Sincerely, Laurie
