Members & friends of the National Federation of the Blind of Oklahoma,
Your help is needed to stop legislation which will be detrimental to the
Department of Rehabilitation and the services that are provided through the
Visual Services Division to all blind people in the state of Oklahoma. You
have already seen information regarding HB1861 and HB2230 which we, as blind
people, vigorously oppose. Senate Bill 733, introduced by Senator Griffin is
essentially a "Shell" Bill that will allow for funding to go directly to
outside vendors or entities providing services rather than through contracts
with the Department of Rehabilitation. WE DO NOT WANT FOR THIS TO happen!
The Senate Appropriations Committee votes on S 733 tomorrow morning,
February 22 at 10:00 a.m. in room 535 of the Oklahoma State Capitol. If you
are able to go to the meeting in the morning, please get in touch with me
and let me know that you are going to represent the blind community.
Regardless of whether you are going tomorrow or not we need your help! See
more on how you can below.
Please contact Senator Griffin and let her know that we do not want this.
Also, please contact Senator Kim David, Chair of the Senate Appropriations
Committee to let them both know that we, the blind members of their
constituency, do not want this! Last, please contact the individual members
of the Senate Appropriations Committee to let them know that you oppose this
legislation as well. The phrase "Not about us without us" comes to mind. You
may e-mail or contact them by phone.
