Hello everyone,
Since most of us are quarantined at home, the National Federation of the
Blind of Pennsylvania is trying to help engage with you remotely through a
number of events we will be hosting this week. Even more events will be
available for you soon to join us to learn, to share, and to break the
tedium of being at home without much social interaction.
How to Participate
We will use the Zoom platform for all of our events, so there are several
ways you can join us:
1. From within the free Zoom app on your iPhone or Android, just hit
the Join button and enter our meeting ID (below).
2. On your computer, use the Zoom desktop application or any web
browser using the link below or the meeting ID.
3. Using a standard telephone, dial 646-876-9923, and then enter our
meeting ID when prompted.
We will be using the same meeting ID for all of our events:
2159880888
If this sounds familiar, that is because it is the phone number for the
affiliate office in Philadelphia.
The following link will also take you directly to our events:

Upcoming Events
And now, here are the upcoming events scheduled so far:
Fitness and Wellness Worriers Time with Lily
Every Wednesday and Friday from 1PM to 1:30PM.
Starting on Wednesday, April 1, 2020
Due to all of us being stuck at home during this difficult time, it is
important to boost our immune system and make sure that we are still getting
some exercise. During this fitness and wellness session we will be talking
about ways of how to boost the immune system, and about how to take care of
our mental and emotional health. We will be doing brief workouts,
meditations, and yoga over Zoom. I have learned a lot of these techniques
during my college years of taking integrative health care courses.
coffee with Emily
Every Wednesday and Friday from 2PM to 3PM.
Starting on Wednesday, April 1, 2020
We will discuss legislative issues facing blind Americans, laws affecting
the education of your blind children, and our Braille Enrichment for
Literacy and Learning (BELL) programs scheduled for this summer. Parents,
teachers of blind students, and anyone interested in the topics of
legislation, parenting, and education are encouraged to join us. Please note
that this event is informative and does not represent any form of legal
advice.
Kernel Book Discussions with Justin
Every Tuesday and Thursday from 5PM to 6PM.
Starting on Thursday, April 2, 2020
During this first session, we will be discussing the Kernel Book story
titled Riding on One Wheel by John Par é. Please read this story using one
of the links below before the event so we can discuss it.

JAWS Training with Joe
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from noon to 12:45PM.
Starting on Friday, April 3, 2020
Please join us as we explore the capabilities and usability of the
industry-leading JAWS screen reading application. We will show you the best
practices, tips, and tricks for using JAWS to operate a computer from the
beginner to the advanced level. The training will be focused on Windows 10
and the Office 365 productivity suite, but other applications and web sites
will also be discussed as appropriate or upon request. Bring your questions,
too, and we will do our best to answer them. The trainer, Joseph Drenth, is
certified for JAWS by Vispero, maker of the JAWS screen reader application.
Reading Roundtable with Marsha
Every Monday from 2PM to 3PM.
Starting on Monday, April 6, 2020
Pull a chair up to the table and share with us about your favorite books and
reading media. Have you discovered any new favorites recently at home while
practicing social distancing? Let's talk about them.
Hot Cocoa with Lynn
Every Wednesday from 7PM to 8PM.
Starting on Wednesday, April 8, 2020
Having a difficult time staying in the house? How has social distancing
effected your life? Lets chat and see if we can turn these lemons into
lemonade!
Please stay tuned for more events to be added in the near future!
I look forward to talking with you during one or more of these events.
Warmly,
Joe
