HI BECKY AND ALL,
WHEN MY SIGHT WAS MUCH BETTER, YES, I DID CROCHET WHILE “WATCHING” (LISTENING MORE THAN WATCHING, AS WHEN I WAS TRYING TO LEARN A NEW STITCH) TV.
THEN, IT WAS USUAL FOR ME TO HAVE AT LEAST SEVERAL PROJECTS IN VARIOUS STAGES OF COMPLETION, CROCHETING WHILE WATCHING TV WAS ONE WAY TO GET THEM DONE!
MY MATERNAL GRANDMOTHER TAUGHT ME HOW TO CROCHET AND READ PATTERNS WHEN I WAS A CHILD.
I CAN STILL READ PATTERNS IF I EITHER USE A MAGNIFYING DEVICE OR MY MOTHER TAKES THE PATTERN TO A COPY PLACE AND PAYS FOR THE PAGES TO BE ENLARGED.
PICKING OUT YARN HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS NOW.
MY MOTHER TAKES ME TO JOANN AS NEEDED (OR WHEN WE HAVE COUPONS, HEE, HEE).
EVEN THOUGH I’M REASONABLY FAMILIAR WITH THE LAYOUT OF THE YARN SECTION, SHE NOW READS THE LABEL TO TELL ME HOW BIG THE SKEIN IS AND THE WEIGHT.
COLORS THAT I COULD SEE A FEW MONTHS AGO ARE NOW “TOO DARK,” EG. MOSTLY BLUES AND BROWNS.
MY MOTHER IS MORE THAN WILLING TO DESCRIBE A COLOR IF NEEDED, “THAT’S A LIGHTER GREEN WITH A LITTLE BIT OF BLUE.”
I MOSTLY MAKE THINGS FOR CHARITY, AS MY MOTHER IS STILL ABLE TO KNIT AND HAS MADE ME BEAUTIFUL SWEATERS.
PEACE,
RUTH
