Greetings Fellow Federationists,
With a little more than a week to go before out 2019 State Convention at the Renaissance Hotel in Portsmouth Virginia, I am writing to inform you of some of the great opportunities you will be able to avail yourselves of that will in turn help us build our affiliate.
I am sure that most of you have received the email about our Action Auction which is again being run by Jackie Brown and Laurie Wages. There will be many exciting items for you to bid on and they always do an excellent job.
As most of you are aware. We will be receiving our National Federation of the Blind Membership coins at this year’s convention. We have a custom made, stainless steel coin holder that was specifically designed for the NFB Membership. Coin that comes with a chain and keyring and can be worn around your neck or as a keychain. This item sells for $20 and was a big hit at our National Convention in Las Vegas this past summer. Be sure to get yours while supplies last. We will only be accepting cash or check for this item.
The Portsmouth Regatta is traditionally held in June but we are having a special repeat running at our 2019 State Convention. In the tradition of our crab races and horse races of old. We will be presenting 6 boats and their captains at our Friday morning board meeting. You will have the opportunity to purchase shares in your boat. If your boat and captain win the Regatta, all the shareholders who bought shares on that boat will split a cash prize with the affiliate. The shares will sell for $5 a piece so feel free to buy as many shares as you like. The more shares you own, the greater your winnings.
Also, you could win the opportunity to be our convention’s NFBVVIP. This is a special raffle for a lucky Federationist and a person of their choice to receive premium seating at the Saturday and Sunday morning general sessions and special acknowledgment as our honored guest, with a fleece and throw pillow for your comfort. The person will also receive a bell to ring at which point one of our affiliate board members or their designated butler will provide refreshments and cater to that persons needs. In addition they will also receive a surprise gift basket and a bottle of sparkling grape juice. These tickets will sell for $5 for one and 3 for $10., You could be out NFBV VIP.
These and past fundraisers help make it possible to fund some of the project that our affiliate participate in. With your help and generosity we were able to assist several 1st time convention goers in attending our past National Convention and help with other projects such as the BELL Program and Richmond Seminar and help to make sure that Virginia has a good showing at Washington Seminar to name a few. So I am looking forward to seeing you all at state convention so we can have a great time and build and strengthen our affiliate. Thank you all.
