> Along with everything we’re doing to keep our selves and love ones safe, we have been advised by the CDC and others to wear some sort of face covering whenever we go outside.
>
> When I first heard this I said to myself, “well, stores don’t have most of the items I try to buy, so, where am I going to find a face cover?
>
> As it turns out, neither you nor I have to buy one. We, or someone we know, can make one for us.

> Below, are instructions for two of them.

> You will need:
>
> Piece of fabric that is at least 18 inches square. Cotton is best. I cut up an old T shirt.
>
> Two rubber bands, hair ties or elastic. If using two pieces of elastic, make a loop out of each piece , the size of a rubber band and secure it with a knot.
>
> Steps:
>
> Lay the fabric out flat on a hard surface.
> Take the bottom of the fabric and fold it up to the center. Crease the fold slightly so that it stays flat.
> Take the top of the fabric and fold it down to the center. Crease the fold slightly so that it stays flat.
> The top and bottom pieces of the fabric should meet in the middle. If you wish, you can use a safety pin on both the bottom and top folds to keep them secure as you work. (Be sure to remove them before finishing the mask.)
> Repeat steps 3 and 4.
> You now have a mask with folds on top and bottom. The right and left ends are still open. You will use these open ends to attach rubber bands, hair ties or elastic.
> String the left open end of the fabric through the rubber band, hair tie or elastic loop until the band is about a quarter of the way toward the center of the fabric.
> String the right open end of the fabric through the second rubber band, hair tie or elastic loop until the band is about a quarter of the way toward the center of the fabric.
> Fold the fabric from the left side into the center. Your crease should be where you placed your rubber band.
> Fold the fabric from the right side into the center. Your crease should be where you placed your second rubber band.
> to wear your mask: place the open ends of the mask that are closest to the rubber bands against your face. Place the left rubber band, hair tie or elastic loop over your left ear and the right rubber band, hair tie or elastic loop over your right ear. Be sure that the mask covers your nose and mouth. If mask is too small for your face, take the mask off and adjust the rubber bands, hair ties or elastic loops.
