Hi All,

You are invited to join in on the Fairfax Chapter conference call the evening of Wednesday, March 9 starting at 7:30 PM and running for about an hour. We have our board meetings the second Wednesday of the month. Below is the list of topics and the number to call to join in.

Topics to cover:

Talk about the rock climbing

Tech fair this fall

Leadership program at state board meeting this May

Horseback riding this summer

Fairfax Chapter Dance Party is being planned

Fundraising ideas

Below is Roberta’s notes from the last chapter meeting.

Cathy gave a very interesting talk on “how to find out what's going on
in the NFB".

“You can find all the resources on the National NFB's web
site".

Cathy also spoke on the monthly NFB Presidential News Release and how important it is for all members to hear it.

Annette Carr suggested that as soon as the recordings are available to the public, we notify our members of the new Presidential Release so they can hear it for themselves. We can notify our members via email. We should include where to find it on the internet. Cathy agreed to do it.

Cathy demonstrated her Apple Watch.
John Bailey spoke about the Richmond and WASHINGTON SEMINARS.
AT THE RICHMOND SEMINAR THE VIRGINIA MEMBERS SPOKE WITH THEIR State Senators and Delegates.

Among the issues discussed at this year’s Richmond Seminar were the bill on more effectively evaluating vision impaired students in the schools to determine what learning
options they need, such as Brail. Unfortunately the bill was not passed.

At the Washington Seminar held a few weeks after Richmond Seminar, the Virginia members met with their National senators and Congressmen.

One of the issues discussed was eliminating Sub minimum wages for the blind and disabled and replacing it with competitive wages.

“The disabled need to be paid the minimum wage".

Another issue that was discussed was changing the law which would make it easier for organizations that produce information in alternative formats to share Brail, audio and large print books etc around the world.

John announced that on March 12, at 1:30PM, at the sport Rock indoor sport climbing center in Alexandria, a group of vision impaired adults are going to learn indoor rock climbing.
Other activity options for future programs are: taking dancing lessons, horseback riding (Wanda has to make arrangements), & going to a comedy club.

John announced that the next state Board meeting will be at the Kenneth Jernigan institute in Baltimore in May.

Fairfax's Chapter Board meeting conference call is every second Wednesday and all are invited.

in early fall, the chapter will be hosting a Technology fair.

Meeting adjourned. All enjoyed the
