Olla – I hope all are doing well. Sue and I flew to Floridaon Feb. 26 and returned on March 6th. We have had no ill effects soI think we avoided the virus. I hope we are close to the flattening of the curveand new medications to attack it. Let us all do what we can to help stop thespread of the virus. I had already made reservations for the convention inHouston but it is not lloking good. We shall see what happens.

In the last CrierI asked if you could identify the next author I would recommend by giving theclue that he played cards with Castle on the TV show of the same name. Theanswer is Michael Connelly.

Connelly haswritten a bunch of best-selling mystery books. The first two I read were ThePoet and The Scarecrow. Both books were about a newspaper reporter. In the Poethe is in Denver and on the cop beat. His twin brother, a cop, appears to commitsuicide while working on a particularly grizly murder. He looks into it moreclosely and it feels wrong. His work leads to other murders and the FBI. A goodread or listen. In The Scarecrow, he has moved to Los Angeles and is workingfor the LA Times. A call from a mother whose kid has been arrested for a trunkmurder starts him digging. Once again the FBI is involved and he uncovers a lotmore.

Connelly’s nextbooks are about a LA homicide detective named Harry Bosch. Harry was a tunnelrat in Viet Nam. He crawled into Viet Kong tunnels to get information anddestroy them. When he came back to LA, he joined the police. In the first twoBosch books, The Black Ice and The Black Echo, we learn a lot about his pastand what makes him tick. We also learn about some characters that show up inlater books.

As we read morebooks about Harry, we encounter a new main character, The Lincoln Lawyer. Hemeets Harry as part of a case. He and Harry have more in common then what itfirst appears. Just like Harry has many books about him, the Lincoln Lawyer hasseveral about him.

If youcontinue  reading Connelly, you willfinally come to his latest main character, a female detective. She and Harrymeet in a strange case and her character is a good one.

These books areavailable in many ways. I have a few on CD but I have gotten most on Audible. They should also be available on BARD or maybe another service you use.

Who knows when Iwill be able to share my CD collection with you but you can find Connelly otherplaces. Some of the Bosch tales have been produced by Amazon Prime as a series. They are Audio Described and star the guy that reads many of the Bosch books. Ithink they are in their third year

I hope betweenHillerman and Connelly you can find something entertaining and interesting. Thenext author I will talk about is a very different genre. He is also a detectiveof sorts but a very different animal.

Enjoy the day

Dick
