NFB of New Hampshire Colleagues, Friends, and Acquaintances:

During the 2024 National Convention of the National Federation of the Blind
(NFB), a significant amount of attention was given to blind people involved
in the entertainment industry, with plenary session programming involving
blind people occupying roles both in front of, and behind, the camera as
part of film production. The movie, unseen, was played for delegates at the
Convention to considerable enthusiasm.

Both Dan Goldstein, a now retired law partner from one of the major law
firms specializing in Civil Rights for people with disabilities across the
United States, who actively represented the NFB, and many of its members, in
multiple precedent-setting cases, and I serve on the Board of Directors of
the Disability Rights Center of New Hampshire (DRC-NH). Dan introduced the
idea of having the DRC-NH, in collaboration with several statewide
representatives from the blind, immigrant, and mental health advocacy
communities, to come together to promote the screening of unseen, with the
goal of raising awareness about the intersections existing among these three
communities. Conversations were held, and I am delighted to share that this
movie, featuring a blind immigrant to the United States, will be shown at
the Red River Theatre in Concord, New Hampshire, on the afternoon of
Saturday, April 26, 2025. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m.; the movie commences
at 1:00 p.m.; and a panel of three New Hampshire-based representatives from
the communities referenced in the film will offer comments on the
significance of this production, particularly considering the current
context in which we are now living. The film and panel presentation will
conclude by 3:15 p.m.

For further information about this afternoon of entertainment and education,
please see below a social media posting from the DRC-NH providing additional
information about blindness and immigration. Seats are limited, and tickets
have been priced moderately to cater to all communities who may have an
interest in this documentary. To guarantee that no financial barriers will
present a hardship for anybody wishing to attend, please simply include the
Code Free Ticket in the appropriate spot on the Webpage where the tickets
can be purchased. The DRC-NH Social Media posting is as follows:

unseen: Disability and Immigration in NH - Movie and Panel Discussion

Saturday, April 26 at 1:00 pm

Red River Theater, Concord NH

Photo: Close up of Pedro, star of the movie, wearing sunglasses with event
details.

Most people dream of a better future. Pedro, an aspiring social worker, is
no different. But as a blind, undocumented immigrant, Pedro faces political
restrictions to obtain his college degree, secure a job as a healthcare
provider, and support his family. As he finally graduates, uncertainty looms
over Pedro. What starts as a journey to provide mental health for his
community ultimately transforms into Pedro's path towards his own healing.
Through experimental cinematography and sound, unseen reimagines a cinema
accessible for blind/low vision audiences, while exploring the intersections
of immigration, disability, and mental health.

Join us for a showing of the movie and panel discussion featuring disability
and immigrant experts from across New Hampshire.

Where blind leaders in the NFB from around the country have contributed to
the creation of this film, both in front of, and behind, the camera, it
would be wonderful if a large contingent of the blind community in this
State would come out to support this event, both as engaged audience members
and as ever, positive ambassadors on behalf of blind people as modeled for
almost eighty-five years by the consistent advocacy and presence of the
National Federation of the Blind. Gratitude is owed to the National
Federation of the Blind of New Hampshire (NFB-NH) Affiliate President,
Deanna O'Brien, for agreeing to have the NFB-NH be one of the several
co-sponsors of this important event. If anybody has questions about this
event, please feel free to contact me; my personal information is below in
my Signature Block.
