I used all your good advice with my other old Index, and I got it to work! Yay!!! Now I can finally print out all the music I’ve been wanting to print for at least a year.

Thanks!

Tracy

Tracy,

Glad to help and save you some money.

You lucked out ... my embossor is an Index Basic 4. Its pretty simple. Maybe rather than trying to describe in writing how to load paper, it to you, call me and its easier to talk you through it over the phone. I have a diabetics conference call tonight and I just got in a few minutes ago, so perhaps sometime tomorrow we can touch base. Are you around at 1:00 PM?

I actually live near you in Oradell. My number is (201) 261-2281.

Eileen, you’re brilliant!

It worked, except the paper won’t feed.

Does anyone know the Index 4 well, and can describe the paper loading process? It should be clear, but, once it goes into the printer, it disappears and gets stuck somewhere.

I’m not sure if I need to send the thing off for repair, or I’m just doing it wrong.

Tracy

Hmm, it may not like the hub and want an actual port on the PC. However, if its been working all along with being connected to the hub then maybe/maybe not. In any case, it doesn’t hurt to try switching your ports if you haven’t already. What about switching the USB to a different port on the hub assuming the hub has multi connections? The noise just says the PC is recognizing it not any thing about the embossor. Is the embossor powering up as usual or is something not working as normal?

Sometimes if something goes wrong with my ssystem and a print job does not actually print/emboss it could be there are multiple jobs in the print Queue. If you go to the control pannel and I think its under printers, look for the printer queue or print jobs. If you see the names of the files you’ve tried embossing there then delete them from the queue. You might have to switch from PC cursor to Jaws cursor (top right key on numeric keypad) and back to PC cursor (middle key on far right of numeric keypad) to find the file name(s). I don’t do it a lot so kinda forget exactly what has to get done. If in Jaws cursor, make sure you’'r on the first letter of the file name before pressing delete. Those queued jobs can hang the embossor. I’d check to try and find exactly where it is because I’m the type who has to hunt around to find what I’m looking for, but I need to get ready to go out in a little while. I’ll check in later today to see what you found.

Also, if it is any file in the print queue that hung it up, then if it were me, after deleting them out of the print queue I’d restart my computer just to make it all nice again.

Good luck.

Eileen

Hi Eileen.

Oldish, but still working, so far as I can tell. The USB cable isn’t long enough to reach my PC, so I plugged it into a hub. The PCmade the noise it makes when a USB device is plugged in, but my printing didn’t happen, or even try to happen.

Tracy,

What kind of braille printer is it? Some embossors are very particular about the port they are plugged into on your computer. So, if by any chance you’ve disconnected it from one port on your computer and then plugged it back in but on a different port that could be the issue. How old is it?

I want someone to come to my house and figure out why I can’t make my braille printer work. I’m happy to pay whatever the going rate is. I just don’t know how to find the person I want.

Any ideas, or better yet, someone who can do the job?

I live in Teaneck, Bergen County.

Tracy
