[NJTechDiv] FW: using reddit with or without JAWS

Hi Miss Ruth or anyone who can offer some help,

Since you do not use JAWS, I’m hoping you can help me with a few
questions about using Reddit.

I’d like to go to a specific subreddit (community) and easily find the
latest posts. However, I’ve noticed that some posts appear while others
in between seem to be missing. Could you explain how to view the posts
properly?

I also sometimes want to read the comments on a particular post, but I’m
not sure how to do that with JAWS.

Finally, I’m interested in sending a direct message (DM) to the person
who created the community (I don't know if this person is known as the
user?), either in response to one of their posts or as part of a
conversation with them.

I am using a Windows 11 desktop computer, not an iPhone or Android
phone, just to be clear.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Hi Tracy, Mario and All,

Miss Ruth here! I'm wondering if Mario is new to reddit and asking what
it is about, or has already been using it and is searching for something
specific.

I use reddit without a screen reader, and generally subscribe to
specific "sub-reddits" of topics that interest me. For example, r/blind
<https://www.reddit.com/r/Blind/> is a sub-reddit or community of people
interested in blindness related topics.

I also like to look at cute cat pictures <https://www.reddit.com/r/cat/>
there, but these are generally just pictures with no Alt Text.

There is a sub-reddit I find amusing called "Bone Apple Tea" <https://
www.reddit.com/r/BoneAppleTea/> which is how some people erroneously
pronounce the term "Bon Appetit." It's a compendium of ways people tend
to butcher various phrases or words they are unfamiliar with. Just a fun
diversion!

Take care,

I’m reaching out to ask whether anyone on this listserv (or anyone you
know) have experience using reddit.com, either with a screen reader
(such as JAWS, NVDA, or Narrator) or without one.

I’ve been searching for a clear, high-quality text-based tutorial on
using Reddit effectively, but I haven’t had much success so far, whether
searching with or without a screen reader. Any insights or
recommendations you might have would be greatly appreciated.
