New Mexico Association of Blind Students meeting for 10/17/2010

Meeting was called to order at 7:06 PM.

Treasurer's Report

Current balance as of September, 8, 2010: $796.17.

David moved to have the treasurer's report passed. 

Michael seconded and the motion was passed. 

Monica moved that the minutes from the previous meeting be approved as read.

Announcements state and Local:

A Meet the Blind Month Walk will be happening on Saturday, October, 23. 

Please contact Veronica Smith for more information. 

 

Student Seminar Update 

We are trying to find an available place to play goal ball. 

We will continue to look for a facility with easy access. 

The lunch at the seminar will be pizza and soft drinks/juice depending on if
there are any kids attending.

We were trying to decide which restaurant to order from so that the price
won't be so high, until we decided on Pizza Hut because they have the
cheapest specials. 

Guest speakers will include Christine Hall, Darian Smith, Kelly Birma, and
Terese Garcia. Possible guest speakers include: Cheryl Fogle and Ray
Marshall: Tara will contact them and find out if they are interested.

We are still trying to get a hold of Claudia to find out if the parent
division wants to participate in our seminar.

We will be using two rooms so that we can do scenarios with small groups. 

 

Fundraising

Mugs and t-shirts are still being sold.

Amanda brought Tara some extra canes, just in case we have a Disability
Awareness Day and we don't have enough blind people with canes to borrow. 

We've decided that our only activity for November will be the student
seminar. 

The meeting for November will be on the 21st via teleconference. 

The National student Devision is doing Pennies for Pages campaign. For each
page a participant in the contest reads a penny is donated by a sponsor of
that participant to the National Association of Blind Students for Braille
literacy.

Monica moved that the meeting be adjourned at 8:19 pm. 

Michael seconded. 

Meeting adjourned at 8:20 pm.
