                              Project SEARCH
Director Miller (far left) converses with Micah Hetrick (far right), Emergency Department Supply Clerk, at Dublin Methodist Hospital. Hetrick is participating in Project SEARCH. Also pictured, are Susie Rutkowski (next to Miller), of Project SEARCH and Kelley Kobashigawa, Instructor, Dublin Methodist Hospital.

On Tuesday, I toured Project SEARCH at Dublin Methodist Hospital. Project SEARCH is a one year, high school transition program which provides training and education leading to employment for individuals with disabilities. The Project SEARCH program occurs on-site at Dublin Methodist Hospital and allows students to learn employability skills in the classroom while participating in three, unpaid internships throughout the year.

                              Jewish Vocational Services

When I met with Jewish Vocational Services (JVS) Executive Director Peter Bloch back in February, I made a commitment to tour JVS and discuss further ways we can expand our partnerships to help get people with disabilities back to work in careers they enjoy. Prior to the tour, Mr. Bloch graciously provided space so that I could hold an Executive Team Meeting. After the meeting, we toured JVS. We had a great discussion about the ways we can collaborate with one another to enhance vocational rehabilitation programs in Cincinnati. I want to thank Director Bloch for his wonderful hospitality and a great tour.

                              Recovery to Work

One of the ways we can strengthen the Recovery to Work program is to have a robust outreach effort to individuals exiting rehabilitation clinics. With this in mind, I visited Maryhaven in Columbus to provide an overview of our innovative partnership with the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (ODADAS) and the ways this program can help individuals that are beginning to pick up the pieces from an opiate addiction gain real-world job training that can lead to fulfilling jobs.

                              ODADAS Project Training

Today marks the end of another ODADAS Project training session. I want to thank our staff for doing a wonderful job in preparing the training materials as well as presenting the materials.

                              Center for Independent Living

It was a pleasure to meet with the Center for Independent Living (CIL) Director Lin Laing to discuss ways we can partner to expand independent living programs in the Greater Cincinnati area. The CIL strives to help individuals who have physical, sensory, cognitive and psychological disabilities to maintain active, productive lives of their own choosing.

                              Meeting with Cincinnati Staff

While in Cincinnati, I also met with RSC staff at the Centennial office. It is important that I meet with our field staff as much as possible because to many Ohioans with disabilities, our field staff is the face of RSC. I want to thank Area Managers Mark Fay and Paula Shew, as well as staff, for their hospitality. By the way, Vicki Grozier says this office is the best!
