[Ohio-talk] being independent

Hi Marianne,
Dawn asked me to answer this.
She has a Rehabilitation Counselor who is not blind.
She also has someone from the Sight Center who is not blind who is a Rehab Teacher.
This lady is not well informed and does ridiculous workarounds for totally blind people.
She is not interested in teaching reasonable Adaptive methods.
>From what I know from the Diabete-talk Listserv Count-a-dose from Prodigy is 50 units and there is nothing for 100 CC's.
The Insulin Pen is not an option for Dawn unless she gets a Waiver from Express Scrips. Express Scrips does not allow them for her because she requires a higher Insulin dose and it is cheaper to provide it in Vial Form.
Dawn is able to feel clicks so I think the Prodigy Count-a-dose will work for her.
The Waiver will take quite a while because Express Scrips is changing some procedures.
I was able to get a Waiver for Prodigy Meters and Strips for blind people using Express Scrips about 2 years ago.
I will see if I can help Dawn get a Waiver from Express Scrips.
We have one Diabetes Educator at one of our Hospitals who does not know anthing about working with a Totally Blind Person.
She has worked with Visually Impaired Patients who have usable Vision.
I will check on a Prodigy Count-a-dose for Dawn.
It would be quicker for her to order it herself.
