No, they didn't discontinue the count a dose, they just changed 
manufacturers.  There was a nice article about the Connt a Dose in Diabetes 
Forcast, a magazine that is put on digital cartridge by NLS.  Just contact 
the Ohio Library and ask them to start sending it to you.  That's how I 
heard about the Count a Dose.

Apparently, the original manufacturer couldn't get it to meet FDA 
regulations, so they were going to discontinue it because they thought there 
was no market for it.  Then someone from our Organization contacted Prodigy 
Products and asked them to help.  They ironed out the FDA bugs and it is now 
on the market again.

I haven't seen a Count a Dose, but it was described as a holder for as many 
as two insulin vials.  The holder has raised dots (not braille) so you can 
distinguish which bottle is which without being able to read the print label 
or make your own braille ones.  You put the syringe in the bottle and turn a 
dial, and it clicks once for every unit of insulin

If you want to order the Count a Dose sight unseen, you could call Alan 
Medical at 1800-333-1412.  They sell Prodigy Products.  If you want to find 
out if anyone closed to you sells it, call Prodigy Diabetes Products at 
1800-366-5901.  If you decide to order the Count a Dose without seeing it 
first, then you could ask the diabetes educator closest to you to help you 
learn to use it.

Unfortunately, I can't help you with your computer problems; I need help 
with just about everything I do on the computer myself, but if you call our 
national office and ask for help with getting on the DAN List Serve (or any 
other diabetes information) they will help you.

By the way, you're doctor's office should know if there are insulin pens for 
the insulin you take.  If there are, you won't even need the count a dose. 
I take Lantus insulin, and there is a pen for that called Solo Star which is 
completely accessible for a totally blind person.  Your diabetes educator 
could help you learn to use the pen, too.
