Hi Fellow Educators:

I have been approached about teaching a student who has myopia. The student brings books very close to the face and has problems tracking. I have read that wearing of lenses might solve some of the problems of myopia and better illumination and the use of magnification and magnification aids are also used. Any ideas how I as a blind certified teacher of the blind and visually impaired would be able to teach this student? Do you feel the child warrants the learning of the Braille code? Please inform me about any suggestion fellow educators have for me. This is the first time I have taught a student with a visual impairment without additional disabilities. I did teach a blind child without additional disabilities the Braille code. I do need to get back to the school as soon as possible to indicate my willingness to service the student. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions fellow colleagues can offer.
