Is it inappropriate to have a "reader" for the child seeing that there is an access issue?
Just a thought?

  Hi all,

I have a student in third grade, came later to learning Braille than other students, and is still in the midst of learning all her Braille contractions. At this time, all her classwork/readings, etc are done with a Braillist to reflect her currently known contractions.

However; coming up in a few months we will be having state testing in ELA and Math, which are both ordered for her in Braille. The obvious difficulty will be that they come in grade 2, clearly putting her at a disadvantage.

Has anyone run into this situation, and how did you manage it. I dont' believe I am 'allowed' to change format of the testing put out by the state (even if it makes it more fair for her, unfortunately). Our director of Special Ed is looking into options with the testing dept.

Thank you for your time and suggestions.

  Amy
