[Pibe-division] question

The only time that we are called in to do a functional on a student by the nurses is when it is a student who repeatedly fails vision screenings after obtaining glasses. Even then, a Pupil Appraisal or SBLC member is usually the person to contact us. Before conducting an FVA we send a eye report to the doctor for verification of corrected acuity/field (only after obtaining parent/guardian permission to conduct such an investigation). This is not to say that we have not found students by way of the school screenings, however, if we were to test every kid who fails, we would never have time to teach!

Yes it is usually requested for hard to access students that possibly are due for testing.

I don?t see your question, but I have never heard of this and I would never do this. It is not a TVI?s role/responsibility to do screenings on non sped VI or
potential VI kids. Is this the routine screenings school nurses do??

Currently my district has VI teachers helping nurses complete eye screenings including students who are not special education and there is no parental release for assessment. Our current teacher completing this assignment is completing
a min-FVA with distance vision, tracking, pupil response, visual field test and the Hirschberg Corneal Light Relex test. It is considered a Functional Vision Screening.
