Research Title: Preparing for Students Who Are Blind or Have Low
Vision: The Development of a General Education Teacher Resource for
Creating Accessible Digital Content

Being conducted by: Indiana University at Bloomington

Purpose of the Study

The purpose of this dissertation research study is to learn from
blind and low vision students, subject matter experts, and general
education teachers who have taught blind and low vision students in
the public school setting about what would benefit general education
teachers who will be creating digital content to be accessible,
especially for blind and low vision students. The outcome of the
research is a to-be-determined resource which may take on any variety
of formats as informed by study participants and which will serve to
assist general education teachers in creating accessible digital content.

Role of the Participants and Anticipated Length of the Study

Recruited/eligible general education teachers will participate in two
focus groups hosted on Zoom, each to last about an hour long. The
first focus group will include only general education teachers (about
four in total). Prior to the first focus group, they will be provided
with a list of questions to review. During the first focus group,
they will respond to questions posed by the principal investigator,
which may take up to 30 minutes. The second focus group will include
both general education teachers and subject matter experts (about
four to eight in total). Prior to the second focus group, they will
be provided with a document summarizing student input along with a
draft of the to-be-determined resource, which may take up to 30
minutes. During the second focus group, they will discuss their
feedback on the student summary document and the draft of the resource.

Proposed Participant Compensation

Yes, Following participation in the second focus group, each general
education participant will receive a $50 eGift card (information
about obtaining the eGift card will be provided by email).

Link or Instructions for Participants to Enter the Study

The principal investigator (Kerry Lueders) is reliant on blind or low
vision students, parents, and Teachers of Blind Students/Teachers of
Students with Visual Impairments to recruit participants for the
study. The recruiters may contact Kerry directly with any questions.
Once a recruiter has identified a general education teacher who they
believe is eligible and interested in participating, it will be
helpful for the recruiters to email Kerry and carbon copy the general
education teacher on the email.
