[rehab] [Caution: Message contains Redirect URL content] Re: Being both a client and employee

Hello,

To me, it depends on the circumstances. I was served one time because my husband had moved to a different town. I was jobhunting there. I was eligible for services from thatangle. I probably would not have been eligible to get services just to maintain my employment here.

Having said that, one of the things we do as rehabilitation agency's is to promote the upward mobility of disabled people. If moving up requires rehabilitation services, I would say that is something we need to do. I do recognize that there are limits. I know many agencies provide services to people who make a lot more than their counselors, while their counselors by their own adaptive technologies and keep them up.

Good food for thought.

If it may be useful, the client that brought this to my attention is someone who is working for an agency but has career goals a bit beyond what they are doing currently at the agency. I guess I should call the person a "prospective client" because this person has been denied services. The person has been directed to the general agency because the Blind agency does not want to serve them because they are an employee and have confidentiality concerns, an agency which does not serve blind people, where the person has been denied, or found ineligible. It is being argued that, because the person has a job, the person does not have any impediments to employment.

I am told that this is because there have been confidentiality issues in the past. To me, this seems to violate the spirit of the rehab system, so I'm wondering if anyone knows if this is allowed.
