The purpose of the American Indian Vocational Rehabilitation Services (AIVRS) Program is to provide vocational rehabilitation (VR) services, including culturally appropriate services, to American Indians with disabilities who reside on or near Federal or State reservations, consistent with such eligible individual’s strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, interests, and informed choice, so that such individual may prepare for, and engage in, high-quality employment that will increase opportunities for economic self-sufficiency.

Braille Training Program

RSA issued a Federal Register Notice for Applications for New Awards; Braille Training Program<https://ncrtm.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=83a76dceb96b8a6237e50deeb&id=4a5bd21f1f&e=9c36ed27fb> on May 30, 2019. Applications are due July 1, 2019.

The Braille Training program offers financial assistance to projects that will provide training in the use of braille for personnel providing vocational rehabilitation services or educational services to youth and adults who are blind, develop braille training materials, develop methods used to teach braille, and develop activities used to promote the knowledge and use of braille and nonvisual access technology for youth and adults who are blind.

Under this priority, RSA funds grants for the establishment or continuation of projects that provide:

  *   Development of braille training materials;
  *   In-service or pre-service training in the use of braille, the importance of braille literacy, and methods teaching braille to youths and adults who are blind; or
  *   Activities to promote knowledge and use of braille and nonvisual access technology for blind youth and adults through a program of training, demonstration, and evaluation conducted with the leadership of experienced blind individuals, including the use of comprehensive, state-of-the-art technology.

RSA Call for Peer Reviewers

The RSA Training and Service Programs Division is seeking qualified peer reviewers for possible upcoming grant competitions scheduled to occur between May 2019 and September 2020. Competitions may include:

  *   Long-Term Training
  *   Short-Term Training
  *   Demonstration and Training Programs
  *   Innovative Rehabilitation Training,
  *   Parent Training and Information
