This week’s skill really involves 2 different skills. The first skill is navigating between different comments and the second is actually reading what the comment says.

Before You Start

If you are using NVDA, make sure that you change the default NVDA startup key command. In order to complete these skills, we need to make sure that your NVDA startup key command is NOT Ctrl + Alt + N. If it is, you’re going to run into a problem this week.

Step 1: Navigate Comments

Ok, so the first thing we need to do is navigate between different comments. For instance, if we have multiple comments on one document, how do we move from one comment to the next to ensure that we can review comments quickly. Well, as with all of our key commands for this series, we need to hold control and alt down with our left hand THE ENTIRE TIME, and with the other hand, we will press two letters, one after the other. What are those letters well...

Jump to the Next Comment: Ctrl + Alt + N, Ctrl + Alt + C

Jump to the Previous Comment: Ctrl + Alt + P, Ctrl + Alt + C

Try it! See what happens! When you do, you’ll realize that your screen reader doesn’t say anything. You can read the text that the comment is on using your reading commands, but you have no idea what that comment actually says, well, that is until you...

Step 2: Announce the Comment

I bet you can guess the key command. Notice the words I used above. I didn’t say "read" the comment, I said "Announce" the comment.

Same as before, control and alt are held down the entire time.

Announce Comment: Ctrl + Alt + A, Ctrl + Alt + C

And that’s about all there is to it!
