Happy new year, some updates, and a webinar opportunity!
Frank
Happy New Year and happy World Braille Day!
One of our resolutions for 2024 is to create more ways for WayAround users to talk to each other and us. We'll be posting more regular blog content and hosting monthly webinars. We'll also share comments and tips from other WayAround users. Be sure to follow us on Facebook, Mastadon, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube.
We did a preview at the end of December with our holiday week webinar. Thanks to everyone who joined that webinar - it was a lively discussion with WayAround newbies and veterans alike. Keep reading for a recap of the conversation and links to the resources that were mentioned.
In January we're talking about Braille! You may be wondering why a technology company is excited about Braille. We are BIG fans of Braille, and we'll be explaining more about why over this month. We highly encourage anyone who is blind to learn Braille. We also don't buy into the idea that Braille and technology are mutually exclusive. In fact, using Braille with technology can be powerful!
Tell us about Braille in your life…do you love it? Are you trying to learn? What is challenging about Braille?
Reply to this email or comment on any of our social media channels. Also, let me know what other topics you'd like for us to cover. We're listening!
Thanks,
Jessica
"I have used the product for well over a year and I find it easy to use as a person without sight. I do not have to know if there is enough light in a room, that is a huge plus for me."
- Penny L., WayAround user
Webinar: Braille & Beyond, 1/18
At our January webinar, we're talking all things Braille. What can a technology like WayAround do for a Braille user? What are good resources for learning Braille? What if Braille doesn’t work for you?
Join Michael Doise and Jessica Hipp on Thursday, January 18 at 2 p.m. Eastern, 1 p.m. Central to discuss how you can combine Braille & digital technology like WayAround to be more efficient, productive, and independent.
Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Register here.
December Webinar Recap
We had a really fun webinar on December 28. Several participants shared tips about using WayAround, and we wanted to pass those along to our entire community.
Tina asked a question about using WayAround for essential oils, which sparked a whole conversation about what kind of information to add and which WayTag works best. We often recommend WayClips as a good option for tagging essential oils. Some of the webinar participants got creative with how other types of WayTags can be used on essential oil bottles. There were two ideas for how to use a 2-hole button (the kind you would sew into a garment):
* Thread a pipe cleaner through a 2-hole button, then wrap the pipe cleaner around the essential oil bottle. You can use the pipe cleaner concept for lots of other things, too.
* Use a heavy-duty adhesive like gorilla glue on a 2-hole button to attach it to the cap. Someone mentioned that they glue the WayTag to a clothespin to tag scarfs so they don't have to poke a safety pin through the scarf.
Michael Doise recommended linking to a PDF on your WayTag by saving it to Dropbox or Google Drive. With either service, you can create a link to the PDF. Then add the link to your WayTag by adding a custom detail. This is a great way to access detailed information like user manuals.
Finally, here are some in-depth resources on topics that came up during the webinar:
* How to edit a WayTag
* Five Clever Ways to Attach WayTags to your Things (Read this post for more info about a fan-favorite WayAround accessory, the silicone band!)
Happy tagging!
