First, I’m a little concerned at the political bent some of these items are taking—not the purpose of the list, and there are plenty of other lists where you can spout your preferred material. Besides which, as my mother used to say when my brother and I would fight (I’m the oldest. so I always thought I was right, of course; time, distance and other influences have changed that): It doesn’t matter who started it (i.e., the inaccessibility), you finish it. I am all to happy to advocate for appliances to be user-friendly—with the caveat that I recognize that what is accessible to one won’t be accessible to another. I have trouble with touch screens, and until I get better, using a smartphone-enabled appliance won’t work for me; buttons, switches, knobs and adhesive dots and Braille, with Brailled notes on procedures of use, work for me, but wouldn’t work for a low-vision person who has no inclination, desire or ability to use Braille and tactile methods. I don’t think it’s overt discrimination, but I will keep talking until the cows come home so that more eyes in the wider world are open to our needs—and the blind-and-aging population is only increasing, so people are starting to listen. Maybe the cows will come home in my lifetime...

Second: related only because I want to personally clean up my corner of the world: Could someone more knowledgeable than me remind me how to omit all but the part of a thread I want to reply to—using a screen reader to scroll down through all the previous posts-upon-posts in one thread gets tedious. Thanks!

Sandra
