Hi Everybody,

My name is LIndsay Yazzolino, and I recently completed my undergrad degree in cognitive science from Brown University. I currently work as a full-time research assistant at MIT and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. The research in which I am involved focuses on investigating how blind people use brain areas normally devoted to vision for other nonvisual functions such as language, memory, and spatial navigation. I am also interested in language cognition and in understanding how experience influences the development of brain functions. I've found that research with blind populations can serve as a fascinating approach to understanding more about the brain in general, and I plan to pursue my own research in similar areas once I am in grad school. There is still so much we don't yet know about the brain, and I find it very exciting to be involved in this research! I am still deciding on the type of graduate programs I would like to apply for.

I look forward to connecting with others on this list, and particularly would love to connect with other blind professionals/students in neuroscience. One challenge which I know I will encounter is working with neuroimaging data, and I am wondering if there are others who are in a similar position.

Please feel free to write me off-list if you would like to chat about cognitive science, research, etc. Look forward to connecting with many of you!

Best,
Lindsay
