Greg, I like your thoughts. I was just really excited to be able to have
the strength to be able to do a pull-up. I agree that I have to crawl
before I walk. I also agree that it is important to set goals to reach an
objective. I guess for me I need some way to measure my progress, and
setting goals gives me a good guideline to insure that I am staying on
track. Lastly, I will miss you in Colorado, but I hope you will be willing
to be a mentor to some of the new people who are getting involved with the
sport. I have a ton of respect for you and what you have accomplished, and
I think others could benefit from your tenacious attitude and ability to
succeed.

Chris,
I am glad to hear you are setting goals. Goals are important and necessary.
I think of it a little differently though. I set "goals" to reach my
"objective". Your five pull-ups would be considered your "objective". Set
maintainable and realistic "goals" day to day or week to week in order to
meet your "objective" of five pull-ups in one month. This should allow you
to recognize the smallest of improvements. Ultimately improving your
strength significantly. As athletes, we all want that quick recovery. Be
patient and take your time. At the end of one month. Reassess your
strength and set new goals and objectives.
Good luck. Hope this helps. Sorry I wont see you in Colorado.
Greg

Hi everyone, I have been thinking a lot lately about what it
means to set a goal. So, I thought I would get your input. Do you
think it is important to set goals for your self as far as sports
are concerned? For me it is not only important but necessary. I
need to be working on achieving something that is tangible. For
example yesterday I did two pull ups for the first time sense my
shoulder surgery. The goal that I have set for myself is to be
able to do five pull-ups in the next month. I am interested in
hearing from you. Please also include your goals if you have any.
Chris
