What about Luther Ingram, Rod Stewart, or Millie Jackson...

Thanks Mike for your tip. I also use this technique in some situations, but I use a collapsible ski pole to probe with. I can adjust it to different angles like walking next to a drop off or steep incline to my side. It is also sturdy enough to "lean" on if I stumble a little. Finally, I can use a technique I learned from "Trek for Light" (part of the Ski for Light program) for following a sighted guide in certain conditions. All these great features, and it fits in my day pack, and I can bring it in my checked baggage on flights.
I've never used the Braille compass, but I do use my Trekker quite extensively, and I always carry an electronic compass. If all else fails (or I'm feeling especially ambitious), I use the sun, prevailing winds, and the moss on the rocks or trees.
Loved hiking on Mt. Hood this summer, and a day walk around Salmon Creek (I think that's what it was called).

Kelly
