Dear Bill: I Googled fior tandemclubs in FL and came up with the Panthers who indicate they ride thro9ughout your state:

Perhaps you can communicate with members and have the opportunity to check o9ut a variety of tandem bikes. Mine was custom built for me and my new captain karen and I needed to have two fittings at our local store and get a new seat and handlebars before we both were able to ride comfortably.
 
I hear what you are saying about tandeming and investingin it. As a blind guy, you likely will always ride a tandem, yes? Some great advice I received once from a blind cycling friend: "Getth ebest bike you can afford so that  captains will WANT to ride with you." I found that to be quite useful advice.
 
So, do check out your state tandem club.
