[Sportsandrec] Research Not Survey

Hi, Justin Williams,

The way that I explain a cane to folks is that a cane gives you great
vision within about five feet. Echolocation gives you very good vision
within roughly a thousand. When discussing conveyances, I compare the
two to bifocals' top and bottom lenses. I can safely climb a mountain
with a cane, but can safely ride a mountain bike on that mountain with
echolocation. I can see a building at a thousand feet with
echolocation, I can play basketball with no accommodations, etc.
Echolocation gives you the world without color, but a cane is still
necessary for drop offs and the like.
