[Sportsandrec] clueless coaches

Jody,
You need parents to back you up. If you disobey a teacher you can definitely
get in trouble. Authority knows best now, or they think they do.
I definitely wasn't much an advocate in PE as I had no clue what to say. in
fact, I still don't know how I could integrate in a visual exercise class.
As for recess, that is definitely a way to improve one's gross motor skills.
Again, though a blind kid can desire to play all they want, but it might
take intervention. not all blind kids can figure out how to use equipment. I
remember my teacher of vision impaired, tvi, explain how to move my legs to
swing back and forth; I remember them explaining me the monkey bars.
Attitude simply isn't enough.

Ashley

Hello Mike,

I loved your story of the pole. Yup, that is exactly what I mean. \

Probably the reason why I have a problem with authority.

I think the worse Aide story I have heard of a second grader who had to sit
on the lap of the aide while the aide turned the blind child's head in
appropriate directions. The aide has no formal training, maybe a
certificate program they get in four months or on the job training. You are
really at the mercy of the attitudes and prejudices and misconceptions of an
adult who you can not talk back to without getting in trouble.

Can you imagine? I would be in so much trouble.

JODY
