[Sportsandrec] backpacking trip was that camping trip I mentioned a couple of monthsago

Why is it your job to reassure him? If you want to go backpacking or rock
climbing, I don't see how this guy's feelings about it figure in exactly.

I didn't take my guide dog when I went on this most recent trip. Mostly
that was because I had a 24 hour bus ride to get there. I am from a small
town and have a country dog who is used to wide open spaces, off road travel
and ignoring cows at pasture. He would have been great for the outdoor
portion of the trip, but he would have waged a mutiny about the lengthy bus
ride. We were both much happier with him at the dog boarding lady's house.

I think it's important to consider what your dog's strengths are. Does he
do well in a off road, wilderness environment? Is he easily distracted by
small furry things? Also consider what furry things are in the location
that might look at your dog as a tasty snack. If your backpacking, what
sort of shelter are you bringing? Will the dog fit in it at night? I
wouldn't want to leave my guide dog outside of a tent at night. How will
you pack in food and water for your dog?

Just some things to think about. I don't think there is any one right or
wrong answer.
Julie

Hi all,
I am going on a over night back packing trip of mine in August. He is not
sure how I will do on it. He is sighted and he does not want to go hiking
or rock climbing with me infill he sees how I do on the back packing trip.
How do I resure him? Should I take my guide dog on the trip?
Thanks
