[stylist] Blind and segregation

Hopeless it is not. We've come a long way in 50 years, or however long the
federation has been going now. Yes, the NFB does recommend laws which
mandate the teaching of Braille to legally blind kids, but I wonder if they
know that this is merely symbolic. The real battle lies in educating every
individual not too thick-headed to be educated that Braille equals literacy.

Judith,
Not sure what you're saying.  If legislation is worthless and school
officials aren't going to listen to the parents of blind kids, what is your
solution?  Are you saying it's hopeless?  I still say that the over
burdened, uninformed parents who don't currently stand up for the teaching
of  Braille to their kids will be somewhat supported and vallidated by
knowing that the law insists upon it.
