Lori, 

I did the same thing with a deaf computer tech at the university.  We were
co-workers, and the rest of the office staff loved to see us communicate.
Using the computer back and forth worked for us, as well as having an
interpreter, and other interesting accommodations.  It was also helpful that
we worked for the Disability Resource Center on campus.  I have tried to
sign, but it really helps to be able to use both hands. Oh, well, we always
made it work out.
