I wouldn't kill Wendy off.   She can be useful in the next book.   As for 
Mrs. Bird, think about what you might have her do, and if nothing comes to 
mind, killing her off is an option.

You might consider having a doctor talk with Liza about Nadia's PTSD, and 
speculate about the possibility of her recovery.   Then have Liza stand near 
Nadia's bed and hold her hand as the book ends, expressing her concern for 
the possibility of Nadia's recovery so long as her mother is alive.
Just a thought.
