[stylist] What is allowed or not allowed on NFB lists

Parents can not block their children from every form of violence, sex, or
fowl language. At some point a child must learn to deal with these things on
their own. These aspects of expressing acts are used in television, online,
music, movies and literature. Sexual, violent or other forms of explicit
content are other ways for a writer or artist to express him/herself. I
agree that children should not be exposed to much of this, which is why
there are warning labels on discographies, in books, and on movies. It is up
to the parent to block what they deem as inappropriate from reaching their
child, however, might I point out that they will encounter these topics
eventually. It may be more benificial to discuss the difference between
violent crimes in a book, used to enhance and move a long a plot line, and
the reality of a crime which could lead to criminal charges, the same goes
for topics relating to sex or explicit language.
