Right.   I wrote that before I read your prompt.   The 500 word limit is 
arbitrary, of course.   Limiting to 500 words forces writers to think and edit 
carefully, and makes it possible to share the work with a group.   
Otherwise, the story may be too long to post.   That doesn't mean we can't take the 
prompt and flow with it to a much longer work if we wish.
