Judith,
For all intensive purposes, I am totally blind and people still say I
don't "look" blind. I also get that I don't "act" blind, whatever that
means.
My husband, Ross, is like you. He has RP and still has some useable
vision. He relies on alternative techniques more than sight, but he
does still use his sight at times. He has been accused so many times of
"faking it." Peoples definition of blindness does not have a lot of
room for movement. Perceptions, and that is all it is, exist in peoples
minds of what blind is.
I love how people who have never been blind, or are not exposed to those
who are, think they know what it is to be blind. Even when we, the
blind, explain, they still cling to their notions.
