Sem,
I realize a lot now about myself and the world, but it took a long time for
me to see beyond what I was told growing up. I love my mom, and we are cool
now, but we had a rocky time really until I moved out of their house at 23.
And the comment about law school is by far not the worse thing my mom ever
said to me, smile. She also told me I wasn't good enough as a vocalist or
actor to make it, even though plenty of others, including professionals said
I was, but for a very long time, it was Mom's approval I sought. My mom had
a rough marriage, and though my parents have stuck it out, it wasn't always
the greatest relationship. Being the oldest, I have often been the scapegoat
for both my parents, but especially my mom. I have accepted a lot of things
now, and in some weird way, I get why she was and is the way she is, but it
makes me sad we never had, and never will have, a great mother/daughter
relationship.
Bridgit

Bridgit!
Your mom told you you weren't smart enough for Law School? I hope I"m not
overstepping here and if I am forgive me, but I was hurt on your behalf.
WOW. My mom was one of those who pushed me to go to law school and who was
disappointed a bit when I chose other things. Not that shes didn't feel I
should take the creative rout, but she rather thought I should do both.
LOL.
All the things you got A's in during your school and university, you seem
pretty smart to me. I did the same except in math which was never something
that clicked easily for me. My husband says that most of the time it's not
taught correctly and he thinks with proper teaching, with my logical mind I
would've done great. I think he'd say the same to you, and it did make me
feel better as I also felt I was never helped to understand math and how
can I do well at what I do not understand. Good to hear it's on the
teachers. HAHA.
But really I think you were and are plenty smart enough for Law School or
anything else you want to study. *hugs*'

I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed.
I get along with the voices inside of my head.
