Barbara,

Most books of poetry are based on themes, but ultimately, it's up to you. Centering around a theme brings cohesiveness though to a publication.

Length depends on what you want as well. Most books of poetry I've read have been 30 to 50 pages, but some are longer.

I recommend you find a poetry editor to assist with charming up your poems.

So, I made a deal with myself on Friday that if I wasn’t chosen as one of the people for that writers guild, I would move forward with publishing a poetry book.  Since I saw Shelley do her book through Lulu and it didn’t seem that horrendous or even scary, I think I might try that route, too.

Okay, now that that decision is made, next step I suppose is deciding what to put in this here book, right?  Is it best to make it a themed book or on a variety of topics?  I’d rather read a book on many topics but I’ve learned that I’m not your traditional reader, I guess – or is it today’s reader.  Once I decide that, what is the usual length done these days?  (I read my books from bookshare and they don’t always give page numbers.)  This will be a spoon-fed project, but what’s the worst that can happen?  I put together a book and no one buys it.

Oh, and does anyone know someone willing to give me tips on sharpening up poems I choose?
