I think most writers write about their life experiences, even if changed a
bit. Even fiction writers rely on personal experiences to create characters
and plots. Usually a little bit of a writer exist in each thing they write.

I suppose the slant of how you write depends on the person/group/situation
and how you feel emotionally about it. Tone and voice will change depending
on how you intend to depict. Are you informing? Debating? Educating? Simply
sharing? Tone and voice will be determined by intent.

So yes, I think differences can happen to subject matter all depending on
intent.

Does anyone besides me see a subtle difference between whether you are
writing a piece directed toward a specific person or group versus writing a
piece inspired by a person or group? Or am I just trying to justify a
behavior. Albeit the cinquains that I have been writing are the result of a
current situation in my life, if one were to go through my years of poetry
you would find the theme runs through them.
