[Stylist] Writing Evaluation

Hello Writers,

Have you ever had a professional eval or critique of your writing?

A friend recommended a possible editor to me, but it turns out we may
not be a good fit. He lives in another state and his fees would be
rather pricey for what I can afford. I sent him a sample story, and he
made an interesting ending observation.
This gentleman has been a creative writing instructor at the college
level and says my proficiency is similar to that of his students.
However, the level from similar to great is a large leap and it takes
plenty of time to arrive there. Getting something ready to publish
would take hours of feedback and rewrites at this stage, according to
him.
It is rather humbling to occasionally get a professional opinion. Thoughts?
