Good luck, Barbara!
I don't think I would be very impressed with a group who were exclusive and did not accept new members, unless it was a class that had start and end dates that new members could join. is it common for groups not to accept new members?

I've discovered there's a poetry group that at least meets sometimes at my local library and the woman from the library sent the content information of the person who made the reservation. I have never introduced myself in this sort of setting so what do I ask her? I know I need to know the time of the meeting because the date is always listed but maybe they might not want new members. How do I approach that topic? Do I just outright ask if the group welcomes visitors and would accept a new member if we think it would work? What else ought I ask or tell about myself?
