Hello, Everyone!
I want you all to know that, after considerable though, I've
decided to say that LeRoy and I were close friends of Carl Owens and I'm so
glad he moved out of Iowa, got a good job with the Federal Government, and
found a good life! LeRoy knew him for years, as did I, because I went to
Vinton for most of my school time. He came to the Orientation Center when
LeRoy and I were both there and planning to be married. In fact, he walked
down with us to the courthouse when the civil ceremony occurred-we had to
wait to get the church wedding done, so we went to the courthouse to make it
all legal. We sat on the third floor of the OC, where the WATTS line used
to be, and talk and talk some more about everything imaginable. One time,
Carl bought a radio somewhere, and LeRoy and I went with him to Hauge's show
to make some kind of a battery pack so Carl could get more battery life out
of the radio when he was out and about. After leaving the OC, he worked at
a transmitter way down on Army Post Road. We still saw a lot of each other.
Carl was a great person! He was a loyal friend and he treated
everyone alike. I didn't hear him say anything unkind about anybody very
often. He had a live sense of humor and a good radio voice.
We lost contact when he moved to Philly, but that's OK. It's
all good, and, when LeRoy gets on the HAM radio tonight, he'll think of
Carl.
Sincerely,
Mary L. McGee
