[Trainer-talk] Issue With Hyper Links

Hi all,
I am a teacher for students with visual impairments.  I am totally blind myself and use Jaws, a Braille Note and other assistive technology equipment.  The Math teacher is going to start using Sketchpad for one of my students.  Have anyone work with a program that could help our students with graphics.  Have anyone work with Sketchpad?
Please, let me know,

Hi, Therese.
A few thoughts come to mind.
First, could you tell us which email program you're using?  Did the ability to access links in an email work until recently?
When you move your cursor on a link in an email message do you hear JAWS actually say the word "link" before it reads the name of the link?
If the answer to that question is no then I'm wondering if your email messages are set to display in text only and not in HTML.  If this is the case then your email program should have an option to have messages displayed in HTML.  Tell us which email program and which version you're using and one of us can point you toward that option.  For example, Outlook 2003, Outlook 2010, Thunderbird 17, etc.

Regarding favorites it might be easier to press control D to add the currently loaded Web page to the favorites or bookmarks list as opposed to the favorites bar.  Just press ctrl-D and the add to favorites or bookmarks dialog will display; press enter to accept the default title of the page or type in one of your own.  Truth be told I rarely use favorites as it's so easy to find pages you've recently accessed in your history.  As an example, if I want to go to Amazon.com I can just type amaz in the address bar and from there press down arrow; the site I want is usually toward the top of the list and I can press enter when I hear the correct one I'm looking for.

I also wanted to say that Google Chrome is more or less usable with JAWS.  Navigating combo boxes may read items a bit strangely but it does work; I haven't tried version 23 and so I don't know if anything in this latest version has been either broken or improved.
Internet Explorer is really the best overall browser to use with JAWS for the most reliable access although on a personal level I use it very infrequently and prefer Firefox due to the fact that Firefox is open source, much more secure and is updated more often than IE.  At home I use a browser called Seamonkey with NVDA although the browser portion of Seamonkey should work well with JAWS.
