Most computers come with what they call an OEM (original equipment from the manufacturer) copy of windows on them. That is not transferable. You will probably have to buy windows for your Mac, and if you do, I would just start with windows 10.

For some background, I have Windows 7 on a laptop which I got in 2011 and don't use anymore. Getting the laptop to do much of anything is an exercise in patience. Would I be able to upgrade for free to Windows 10, and if so what do I need to get from my Windows 7 laptop to prove that I have a licensed copy of Windows?
> Can someone explain how that might work, such as what I would need to get from the laptop, and how I might get the ISO image? Would I get it from Apple or someplace on the Microsoft website? I know these are newby questions but putting Windows on a Mac is totally new to me.
