[Trainer-Talk] Word document with two columns

Hello Tom,

Here are a couple things you might want to try.

If these are newspaper-style columns and an actual column break has been
used then you can go under the Layout or page Layout tab of the ribbon and
set the column number to 1. Things won't read correctly if there is not an
actual column break but it sounds like there likely is one and that
newspaper-style columns have been used. The second column will be placed on
a second page but if for some reason you want to delete the page break you
can do that as well. You can save the file in this form to your Braille
display and it should read correctly line by line. Remember to set the
column number back to 2 if necessary for others to use in that form.

The second method is to change from Print View to Draft View. This does not
actually change the form of the document just the way it is viewed. In
Draft view you should be able to read line by line and only get text from
the current column. To enter draft View you can use Alt followed by W, tab
to the lower part of the ribbon, and keep tabbing until you find the Draft
option. Press spacebar to set it. Remember that only the view is changed
so if you save the file it will be saved with the original two-column form.
If you want to return to the default Print view then use Alt with CTRL and P
before exiting the document.

Take care.

Subject: [Trainer-Talk] Word document with two columns

Hi,
I have heard from several people that there are many good folks who are
teachers and can answer computer questions. I'm using JAWS, Outlook and
Microsoft Word.
I just received a file from someone that is formatted in two different
columns. Some information is on one and more is on another. It doesn't sound
like it's in table form though, just two columns.
What's the best way of reading each column individually or selecting
information from only one column to paste somewhere else?
And, I have a Braille note taker that I wanted to put this word file into
but worry it's going to not read good because of the two columns.
What do I do?
Tom
