I forgot to mention that Outlook for Windows (the replacement for the
Windows 10/11 Mail, People, and Calendar Apps) actually handles the
importation of Contacts from Google Mail seamlessly, but it still doesn't
import any labels you've created as groups; you have to re-create your
groups.

I suspect once Outlook "goes full web app" (which is not saying it will run
under a web browser like outlook.com) things may be engineered to play more
nicely with Google Contacts, too.  But that's 5 years away.
